D. “Gene” Poe, 78, passed away at 3:02 p.m. Nov. 2, 2015, in Warsaw Meadows Care Center.
He was born Dec. 19, 1936, in Floyd County, Ky., to Lynn B. and Essie Marsillett Poe. On May 22, 1959, in Claypool, he married Dorothy Barrett, who survives in Claypool.
He lived most of his life in Claypool. He worked as a farmer and also as a machinist at Clausing for 20 years, He was an avid hunter and fisherman. More than anything he enjoyed being outdoors, in nature.
Also surviving are a son, Matthew Wayne (and spouse Annette) Poe, Claypool; three granddaughters: Shelby (and spouse Joseph) Miller, Warsaw; Karen Poe, North Manchester; Britney (and spouse Aaron) Howard, Hampton, Iowa; a stepgranddaughter, Sierra Shafer, North Webster; two brothers, Amos (and spouse Edna) Poe, Warsaw, and Boyd (and spouse Shirley) Poe, Burket; and two sisters, Phyllis (and spouse Ronald) Hurley, Warsaw, and Bess (and spouse Randy) Ransbottom, Silver Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Poe, who died July 2, 2004; and a granddaughter, Lyndsay Sanchez, who died Sept. 29, 2011.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor William Whitaker, Warsaw Family Worship Center, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
