Editor, Times-Union:

This is addressed to the Warsaw City and Kosciusko County officials. This is in reference to CR 200N and 100E roads north of U.S. 30.

The first thing is CR 200N between U.S. 30 and 100E/Husky Trail. The speed limit has recently been lowered to 30 mph from an unposted 55 mph. We have been doing 40 mph not knowing what the official speed limit was.  The road just north of that one is 250E - (side airport road).  CR 250E is a very long stretch to do 40 mph (posted), but we obey it. Now, 200N is annexed under the city and the same distance of road is 30 mph.

My suggestion is two-fold. First, I think every single person making this decision on the speed limit, needs to get on that road and drive the 30 mph and see how that feels. It is not downtown where it is broken up with stop signs and traffic lights. It is a very long stretch of country road for a very slow speed. My second suggestion on this stretch is that it be 30 mph from U.S. 30 to just east of the Bus Garage and then let it be 40 mph. I understand fully about the area including safety for the bus garage, the child care and just a winding road in general. To me this makes better sense and solution. If 250E is 40 mph, let the long portion of 200E be 40 mph. It is still slower than the old 55 mph limit.

The second is to thank the County Council for bringing up the discussion for a round-a-bout at the intersection of 200E/100N/Husky Trail. A round-a-bout is greatly needed there and also at the intersection of 250E and 100N at the corner of the airport.  While the city is getting ready to lower power lines for the airport expansion, and the road is getting worked on, may I suggest this 3-point round-a-bout be created in the design of the underground vehicle tunnel. For those of us who use it, it is a traffic nightmare in all directions that needs a solution.

Finally, just over 50 years ago, Warsaw Airport gave commute flights from Warsaw to Fort Wayne and other regional destinations. When will the discussion begin again to allow passenger flights from Warsaw to other airports?  Warsaw is busier a half a century later and a lot more business. If the people of Warsaw have to bend for the airport needing more runway room over CR 100E, then couldn't it do something special for travelers? Thanks for listening!
