A Triton High School junior was killed in a single-vehicle accident near Atwood Sunday, according to a news release from the Triton Community School Corporation.
Cameron Scarberry, 16,?Etna Green, died after the accident near the intersection of CRs 650N and 700W.
Scarberry was driving a GMC Jimmy Sunday afternoon at about 1 p.m.
Police say Scarberry was driving east and began to veer off the northern edge of the roadway.
Scarberry then overcorrected and the vehicle rolled over and ended up in a field, according to a report from the Kosciusko?County?Sheriff’s Department.
Scarberry’s brother Jared was also in the SUV and was taken to a Fort Wayne Hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery, the news release from the school said.
Cameron was a member of the Triton football team since his freshman year and was a starter on this year's team.
He was a starter on the offensive and defensive lines.
He was also on the wrestling team since his freshman year at the school and has helped to build that program over the years, the press release said.
Cameron also belonged to the student club, "Fellowship of Christian Students,” the release said.
Triton had school counselors, mental health workers from the Bowen Center and local pastors at school this morning for the students and staff, the school said.
