In the June 9 edition of the Times-Union regarding the article about the United Way changes, there was a small paragraph buried in the same article where they approved (per Marsha McSherry’s request) two picnic tables for the county jail cellblocks at a cost of $6,524. I will repeat that, TWO TABLES!! That comes to $3,262 per table!
First, I’d like to know what these tables were made of and why inmates deserve such expensive picnic tables??? Secondly, WHERE were these tables purchased??? At this price, there must be a kickback somewhere. Personally, I would have bought the wood and let them build their own. It would have given them something to do and with a little skin in the game maybe they would appreciate them more.
