Kosciusko County’s highway department is getting its paperwork lined up for two projects with hopes that some state funding will soon be available.
The county commissioners are helping firm up plans for two repavement projects that may soon be in line for state support through the Community Crossroads grant program.
County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden has identified two projects. One is a 7.5-mile stretch of CR 900N between Ind. 15 and Ind. 19. The other is CR 1000W, between CRs 700S and 1000S.
Tilden intends to repave CR 1000W this fall and CR 900N next spring if the state funding is available.
He said the county is expected to learn about the funding decision within weeks.
The state program requires matching funds be provided by the local entity.
On Tuesday, the commissioners opened bids for both projects. Three local firms bid on both proposals. Those included Phend and Brown Inc., Rieth Riley Construction Inc. and Niblock Excavating Inc.
Bids for CR 900N ranged from $1.7 million to $1.1 million. Bids for CR 1000W ranged from $520,000 to $380,000.
The county will review the bids and be ready to select a winning bid next month.
