County GOP Calls Caucus To Replace Councilman Sanders

Posted
A caucus to replace Kosciusko County Council President Bob Sanders has been scheduled for June 7.

Sanders, 69, died Sunday. He was elected to the council in 2005 and had served as council president the past four years.

“It is with deep regret that I am called upon to request a caucus for Kosciusko County councilman-at-large due to the death of my friend, longtime County Councilman-at-large Robert G. Sanders,” said Mike Ragan, Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee chairman, in a news release this morning.

“Bob served the citizens of Kosciusko County with compassion, honor, distinction and devotion,” Ragan said. “Bob’s great wit and story telling were additional qualities that endeared him to all who were fortunate to know him. We have not only lost a councilman who loved this county, but a man who deeply loved his country.”

The caucus will be at 7 p.m. June 7 in the Kosciusko Circuit Courtroom of the old county courthouse.

Eligible caucus members are Republican Precinct committeemen of Kosciusko County who have served continuously from 30 days prior to the date of the beginning of the caucus.

An at-large council member shall be elected by secret ballot of the majority of members of the voting caucus.

Declarations of Candidacy are available at the office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Ragan at 1458 E. 75 N, Warsaw, IN 46582, no later than 72 hours prior to the commencement of the caucus. Ragan also may be contacted at 574-265-1430 or mragan@sprintmail. com.

Eligible candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus.

Members of the caucus, candidates, designated caucus staff, Republican Party officials, duly appointed watchers and members of the news media are eligible to attend the caucus.
