Need to give a different view on why Constitutional carry has not been given a hearing at the General Assembly as suggested by my good friend Gary Eppenbaugh in Tuesday's letter.
Gary enjoys blaming the Indy establishment for squelching many things but that is not the case in this instance. It has not been given a hearing because an overwhelming majority of Hoosiers oppose it. Statewide polling shows only 32% support it. That is less than one in three support.
In my District 18 polling, which I've done many times, there was 38% support this year, the highest result ever.
State reps are supposed to take their constituents’ views to Indianapolis and represent those views, not their own. That is what the majority of my colleagues do, so if it came to a vote, it would be voted down. Constitutional carry will be debated when at least 45-50% of Hoosiers support it.
