Code Enforcement Sees Progress On Properties

Posted

Warsaw code enforcement officials saw some progress this month on a handful of cases reviewed by hearing officer Larry Clifford Monday afternoon.

Repairs to a house at 519 N. Park Ave., which has had problems with its foundation, porch and roof, are progressing. While more interior work is needed, Clifford revised his order from a demolition to a repair, and will review the case again Nov. 20.

Owner Flaviola Duran was represented Monday by a family member.

Construction crews could be seen working on the house’s exterior Monday.

“As long as we see progress, we’re OK with that,” Clifford said.

In another case, Economy Inn, a hotel at 3521 Lake City Highway, continues to make repairs. A canopy in front of the hotel that had been deemed unsafe has been removed. An extensive amount of new railing around the exterior of  second floor rooms is being replaced and will be done this week.

The company is also expected to address plumbing and electrical concerns. An update on the case will be heard Nov. 20.

Two cases were resolved. Those included a property at 719 W. Market St., where a resident had been bringing in scrap metal and selling it. The other, at 202 Wedrick Drive, was an abandoned house with significant debris outside. The property has been sold and cleaned up.

A case involving a four-unit apartment building at 501 W. Jefferson St. was continued by Clifford until the next month.

Clifford also imposed a second $5,000 civil fine on the owners.

The property has electrical and structural code violations.

The property was investigated for cockroaches last month, and code enforcement found fresh signs of more cockroaches during a brief inspection.

Nobody representing the property attended Monday’s meeting.

The city lists ABC Leasing Properties, Syracuse, as the respondent.

The city will review the case again on Oct. 16.
