Syracuse Library, in conjunction with the Indiana Arts Commission, will be offering free classes in pottery making with clay artist Elizabeth Wamsley. Three class times will be offered for seven to nine people to use clay and get personal instructions to make a cup, bowl or sculpture using the rope-and-coil method. Wamsley will fire the pieces in her studio from a selection of glazes and the finished pieces will be available for pickup at the Syracuse Library.
Art making experiences are not available locally, so the Syracuse Library is thankful for the funding to offer people in the Wawasee community a chance to meet with an artist and make a finished product. Clay is one of the oldest sources for creative expression that is also a practical way to manufacture usable goods. Getting a grant is a wonderful way to gauge the interest in having regular art classes available and to build momentum for future classes.
The Indiana Arts Commission realizes the importance of federal and Indiana congressional representatives for releasing monies for the arts and joins the Syracuse Library in thanking State Sen. Blake Doriot, State Rep. Curt Nisly, Congressman Jackie Walorski, Sen. Todd Young and Sen. Mike Braun.
