First of all, I must make a correction about a Web site I have posted. The actual site is: www.suntimes.com/news/elections/rnc/1145855,college090408.article There was a 5 missing from the URL. I therefore again apologize.
Now, I must ask a few questions as I am confused.
There are people that disagree with me that want the Times-Union to stop publishing what I write, yet do not want others to stop. Isn't the silence of one opinion while allowing another to continue unheeded censorship? Some people believe George W. Bush is my hero - can anyone note anything that I have said that says I am a Republican? You might have confused that with "Republic"an in that I am supportive of the Republic which is what the Founding Fathers gave us when they wrote the Constitution.
My problem isn't with the Democrats or the Republicans - my problem is with the two-party system which has failed us. There are people who are against President Bush, yet hold President Obama on such a high pedestal. How can you explain how the stimulus was going to keep unemployment under 8 percent but didn't? How President Obama was not going to have any lobbyists in his administration but has several? How the health care debate was going to be on C-SPAN but wasn't? If Van Jones gets involved in a Marxist favoring group, admits that he is a communist, what does that make him?
People are also upset that Exxon Mobil made over $40 billion in profit, yet how much money did they spend to make that kind of money? People are upset at President Bush for losing their jobs; can we be mad at President Obama not getting your jobs back? Also, Exxon Mobil spent $40 million on "subsidies, corporate welfare, and corporate tax breaks." Is that an investment of funds in order to turn a profit, which is the purpose of a business and the free market system?
Some people want to blame the CEOs. I have a better idea. Blame the federal government and a tax code that the chairman of the committee who oversees those laws, is being investigated for not paying his taxes - along with the people Obama considered or is in his cabinet who forgot to pay their income taxes.
Some people also claim that this government is an oligarchy - I agree, the oligarchy of Bush, Cheney, Exxon Mobil and Wal-Mart is gone now. The new oligarchy consisting in my opinion of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, ACORN and SEIU is here and they are no better. I want the Republic back - where everyone works for their American dream, not given to them by the government.
Let me end with this. We should put country over partisanship, fact over faith. One-sided discussions lead to arguments. Two-sided discussion leads to debate. Debate leads to compromise. Blame leads to anger. Remember, everyone, you control your own destiny, but only you can change your circumstance.
