Editor, Times-Union:
I enjoy reading Chip Shots every week but feel the latest column is a bit off base.
I, too, experienced the "premature consternation" of the "very long-time Warsaw Tigers boys basketball fan for strongly believing the ticket sales offerings would cease this coming season." The column suggests that if the genesis of the discussion came from a "cafe or social media post speculating the worst that a person should do when they hear something alarming like this is to contact the whole source of truth: the athletic department."
Good advice and that is exactly what I did after informing my breakfast cafe friends that I'd find out the truth and report back the next morning after it was discussed that morning. I called the WCHS Athletic Office and asked if there were reserved seats for this season's basketball games. I was informed there would be no reserved seats sold. Obviously, with all the negative feedback that decision encountered, someone in the administration intervened and the policy was reversed, which I as a 60-year season ticket holder appreciated.
Knowing the letter writer and seeing her at just about every game during those 60 years I've attended, I think maybe the columnist should have done a little more research rather than just reporting one side of the issue. I'm guessing she did talk to the Athletic Office and got the same answer I got.

Editor’s Note: After listening to the community, Warsaw Community High School will continue offering both new and renewed reserved boys basketball seating for one final season, according to an Aug. 27 news release provided by the school corporation. Beginning in late October, previous season ticket holders and new families will have the opportunity to purchase reserved seats, which will be identified on the bleachers with a special seat tag. After the 2025-26 season, no new reserved seats will be issued; however, current seat holders may continue renewing their seats annually with the purchase of an all-sports pass.
“Our goal is to encourage more fans to sit in the lower bowl area to create a loud and proud Tiger atmosphere cheering on our cheerleaders, players and band. This transition reflects WCHS’s commitment to enhancing the Tiger Den atmosphere by making more seating available for all fans to sit together, thus strengthening the energy, community, and home-court advantage for our student-athletes. We are grateful and proud of the many dedicated fans who have shown up year after year to cheer on the Tigers. This new renewal program is intended to honor our great heritage of fans, while also looking forward to new traditions. Handicapped seating is also available, and a special entrance at the back of the gym (door #29) will be available for reserved seat season ticket holders and those needing special assistance,” the release states.
