NEW PARIS  – A man who led police on a chase Wednesday was hospitalized after colliding with another vehicle in Elkhart County Wednesday.
Nappanee police officer Skyler Garner was in the area of U.S. 6 and CR 19 when he observed a blue Chevy weaving in and out of traffic and nearly causing several accidents, according to a news release issued by the Nappanee Police Department.
Garner activated his police lights to stop the car, but the motorist accelerated and led Garner on a chase north on CR 17. The officer lost sight of the vehicle while on CR 17, but was soon advised by a passerby of an accident that had just occurred east of the intersection.
Upon arriving at the crash scene, Garner found the Chevy had collided with another vehicle and the suspect was partially ejected and injured. Garner rendered aid to the man until an ambulance arrived. The man was then flown to Memorial Hospital of South Bend, with unspecified injuries, for evaluation, the release said.
The name of the suspect was not released as of press time this morning.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is assisting with the investigation.
