BURKET - Charles "Chuck" A. Holloway, 86, of 315 W. Center St., Burket, died at 4:20 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Milford.
He was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Burket, to Mace A. and Ida Pearl Matthews Holloway. On Aug. 31, 1940, in Rochester, he married Hildabell Emmons, who survives in Burket where they have lived all their married lives.
He was a former milk route drive for Litchfield Creamery in Warsaw for more than 20 years. He also was a former Moor Mans Feed delivery man. He retired in 1983 from DePuy in Warsaw, where he was a truck driver. He was a 1939 graduate of Burket High School. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran with the 12th Calvary Division. He received a Bronze Star in the Philippians Liberations. He was serving overseas when the Peace Terms were signed. He was well-known for his boxing in which he won many championships, including the Golden Gloves. He also loved to travel and go fishing.
Also surviving are a daughter, Betty J. (and spouse Oscar) McCloughan, Akron; a son, Tom (and spouse Bonnie) Holloway, Akron; seven grandchildren: Steve and Rex Holloway, Anita VanAllen, Shelly Sausaman, Diane Lance, Susan Hoffman and Lisa McCloughan; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mary Phillips, Warsaw; Geraldine (and spouse Robert) Hawley, Claypool; and Marilyn (and spouse Earl) Hall, Rochester; and a brother, Nelson (and spouse Gladys) Holloway, Burket. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arden Holloway, and two sisters, Margaret Zartman and Loretta Katherine Holloway.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating. Burial will be at Rochester IOOF Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Leroy Shelton American Legion Post 36 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343, both of Rochester.
