SYRACUSE – Charlene A. Knispel, 81, of Syracuse, passed away Aug. 26, 2012, in her residence, surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 9, 1930, in St. Louis, Mo., to Charles and Vida Capps Thotus. She married Lorin O. Knispel, who died in 1986.
She was a certified Indiana assessor, a Distinguished Hoosier Award recipient and an Indiana Republican State Committee Person. She worked in Turkey Creek Township since 1972, and was the assessor for 22 years. She was secretary of the Republican Central Committee and past president of the Indiana Assessor Association. She served as county auditor as well as a precinct committee woman for 17 years. She served two terms on the county council.
Surviving are two daughters, Pamela (and spouse Thomas) Mensch, Fort Wayne, and Cynthia (and spouse Korde) Mortakis, Warsaw; two sons, Steven (and spouse Janet) Knispel, Warsaw, and David Knispel, Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, with Pastor Richard Dunning officiating. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
