Change

Editor, Times-Union:

As the primary approaches, we are constantly bombarded with messages extolling a need for change. Change is a great thing when it is needed, however, when we look at the change we received as a result of our last national elections, I believe that a number of statements can be made" "out of the frying pan and into the fire" "oops threw the baby out with the bath water". I believe you get my point.

This change for the sake of change has drugged us as a nation, away from the principals that guided our founding fathers during our country's birth. Of, for and by the people has gotten exchanged for the utopian government of "The Animal Farm" where all animals are equal except the pigs, they are smarter and therefore more equal. However, in our situation it appears that the more equal also applies to the highest bidder (insert lobbyist here). Our government was intended to be comprised of good men from our community, trusted to know and understand our needs and voice our opinion as a result of their votes and stances on issues. Unfortunately, this is the exception today instead of the norm, at least on the national level.

With these things weighing on my mind I took the time to evaluate our county government and found that they are the exception, and that they have demonstrated leadership, and most importantly good financial stewardship. Our commissioners and council have consistently demonstrated that they do listen to us and that they are our voice in government. This is done with humility and grace, without a desire for prestige, their goal is to continue to make Kosciusko County one of the best places in the world to raise our families.

There seems to be a misconception that the candidate with the most signs along the roadway will win the election, they may be correct. I am not the sharpest crayon in the box but it seems to me that if more than one sign is put up in a yard or along a short stretch of road, the person is demonstrating a total disregard for the value of money. I don't think I want that person managing my tax dollars.
