Warsaw lakes opened for the summer season just a couple of weeks ago, but swimmers may have noticed the diving board missing at Pike Lake and the Center Lake pier deteriorating.
Sunday evening, the pier at Center Lake had broken cement exposing metal edges on the north, south and west sides.
When questioned about the missing pier at Pike and deteriorating pier at Center, Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Larry Plummer responded via email, “Thanks for bringing the needed repairs to our attention. (Maintenance Director) Shaun (Gardner) and the maintenance personnel will take care of the repairs. The pier was looked at by the builder last year and it is in sound condition structurally. We just need to repair the concrete deterioration on the surface.
“As far as the diving board at Pike Lake, the water level last year was not sufficient for diving off a board. Of course, this year we have had tremendous rain events that have caused the lake level to be high, but when the lake is at a normal level we will measure the water depth and determine if it is safe for diving.”
