SYRACUSE – Catherine Louise Hoopingarner, 96, of Syracuse, passed away on Oct. 8, 2025, at Waterford Crossing Health Care.
She was born on May 31, 1929, in Milford, to Raymond and Adelia Christena Krull Pinkerton. On Aug. 13, 1950, she married Stanley Hoopingarner, who preceded her in 2012.
She worked for United Telephone, Citizen’s Bank of Milford, Appenzellers Specialty Shop, and retired from the Syracuse Post Office after 20+ years. She was a 4-H leader for 10+ years. She enjoyed being a homemaker, loved to bake, garden, farm life and traveling. She especially enjoyed her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Elaine (Donald) Bokhart, of Syracuse; Connie (Herman) Houin, of Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.; one son, Steven (Darcy) Hoopingarner, of Columbia City; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Along with her husband Stanley, she was preceded by her sister Dorothy Tucker.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Eastlund Funeral Home. Following visitation, she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Syracuse Cemetery.
