AKRON — Carolyn Rose Runkle, 85, formerly of Akron, died at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Chase Center Nursing Home, Logansport.
She was born July 22, 1932, in Fulton, to R. Emmett and Mildred Callaway Burns. On Nov. 4, 1950, in Fulton, she married Robert E. Runkle. He preceded on Aug. 17, 1984.
She was a homemaker and a farm wife. She had also worked in retail sales at Hallmark, Raker’s Boutique and Dress Shop, and the News Stand of Rochester.
She was a 1950 graduate of Fulton High School. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a part of the UMW.
She served on the Fulton County 4-H Fair Board and had also been a leader. She enjoyed gardening, farm work, sewing, baking pies, spending time with her grandchildren, and fellowship.
Survivors include a daughter, Jan (husband Charles) Thomas, Kewanna; two sons, Tom (wife Susie) Runkle, Fulton, and Phil Runkle, Akron; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Cassassa, Monticello; and a brother, Dick Burns, Logansport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Runkle; and three sisters: Mary Jo Bean, Dorothy A. Miller and Shirley Naughgle.
Private family services will be held.
The family will gather to receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 242 W. Pleasant Hill Road, Akron.
Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
