2 Corinthians 5:8: “Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
Carl D. Davis, Argos, went home to be with the Lord on May 29, 2018, at Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born on May 10, 1945, Carl was the only child of Herman and Mary Davis of Argos. He graduated from Argos High School in 1963 and was united in marriage to Glory Overmeyer in 1964. The two of them raised their three daughters in Warsaw.
Carl worked for R.R. Donnelley 31 years and later for Quebecor World in Pennsylvania nine years. He and Glory served as house parents in a children’s home for one year as well, where they cared for and loved 10 teenage girls as their own.
Carl was a godly man and consistently demonstrated his love of God through generosity and by helping others.
Family was the center of Carl’s life, and he was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a faithful fan of anything the kids did, from T-ball, to college basketball, to pageants, track meets, cow shows, volleyball games, lacrosse matches, swim meets, softball games and dance recitals. Every year for the last 28 years the entire family enjoyed their annual Brown County Adventure.
Carl was incredibly handy, and could fix almost anything. He was the first to lend a helping hand to family and friends. After retiring, Carl started a lawn care company, ultimately helping to teach his grandchildren the value of hard work and the pride of a job well done.
Over the last several years he was able to share his love of classic cars with his son-in-law and grandsons. They traveled out west many times to buy cars and trucks to bring home to restore. He was also a gifted woodworker and spent countless hours in his wood shop.
Carl leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Glory; his daughters: Tonya (Greg) VanDeWater, Cara (Dirk) Mattox and Kristi Davis (Jason Wood); grandchildren: Sara (Cody) Bridenbaugh; Zachary VanDeWater; Chase (Lauren), Carson (Cori), Makenna and Bryce Flory; Zachary and Bryce Mattox; and Natalie, Grace, Carlee and Chloe Hostetler; and great-grandchildren: Colton, Daxton, Ridge and Sophia Flory.
Carl’s corneas were harvested and are helping to restore the sight of two individuals.
According to his wishes, a celebration of his life will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Argos Parkside Community Church.
