Hello. My name is Tambi Manns. On Nov. 7 at the J Three Salon in Warsaw, I will have my head shaved for the many children who will lose their hair, childhood and in some cases their lives to cancer. I am asking for donations that will go to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Since 2000 they have given over $50 million to children's cancer research and care.
For those of you who do not know me, I am a shy, quiet, private person. Many times this is misunderstood, some thinking I am snobby or I don't like them. That's how quiet I am. The thought of everyone staring at me when this is over is a bit scary, to put it mildly. Plus, I love my hair. What woman doesn't? When I was given this opportunity, I thought long and hard about it. I had so many reasons not to do it. But in the end, it's for a great cause. I hope you will all help me make this worth it.
At just 10 years old, I watched my grandfather go through horrible pain and suffering, eventually losing his life to colon cancer. He was my hero, a war veteran and an all around great man respected by all who knew him.
Again cancer touched my life when my husband's grandmother died just a few months away from seeing her new great-grandchild, our son, come into this world. For the last weeks of her life she was bedridden, could not even talk, and in constant pain.
Over the years I have seen others go through this as adults. It breaks my heart knowing over 160,000 children go through this type of pain every day. Cancer is the No. 1 disease killer of children in the US and Canada. At the very least they lose a part of their childhood. At the worst, their lives.
Please make a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Online you can go to www.StBaldricks.org. You may send checks made out to St. Baldrick's Foundation to me at 4818 S. Scott Rd. Claypool, IN 46510. Cash donations can be given to me or dropped off at the J Three Salon at 1613 E. Center St., Warsaw. For all donations you will need my name and ID number, Tambi Manns S-361258 so we can track how much was raised. Put this on the memo line for checks. At work you could take up a collection and make one big donation in your company's name. Please make all donations on or before Nov. 7. After the shaving if you see me out and about, you can still give me your donations.
I am not asking for a lot, but if you can spare $1, $5, $10 or more, please do so. This is for a great cause. If you don't know someone suffering with cancer, you probably know someone whose loved one is. I will be posting before and after pictures on the St. Baldrick's Foundation website and on my Facebook page. Thank you to all in advance!
