Calvary Presentations

Editor, Times-Union:
In this age of information and misinformation from the Internet, biased mailings and press releases and other impersonal sources, it has been refreshing to attend the Calvary Community Series presentations at Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse. In April, Judge David Cates spoke on the juvenile justice system; and in May we heard from Wawasee Schools Superintendent, Dr. Tom Edington, on building our new elementary school in Syracuse.
This month, on June 24 at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Larry Allen, chief medical officer, IU Health Goshen, will speak on controlling medical costs while maintaining quality health care and what this means for the individual or family and their health insurance.  Dr. Allen will address the audience, then will field questions.  Participants can then ask questions one on one at the fellowship time following the presentation. The issues Dr. Allen will address are certainly a top priority in the local community as well as the nation. I’ve been formulating my questions for the past several weeks.
A variety of community organizations have table space set up during the fellowship time. At the last meeting, I had the opportunity to speak with Steve Hill from the local Destiny Rescue location. I pass this office near the Wawasee Middle School every day and had no idea as to what they do. It is this organization’s mission to end childhood trafficking and sexual exploitation worldwide. Steve had some shocking statistics about childhood trafficking in the U.S.
I’m hoping to meet my friends and neighbors at Calvary on Wednesday, June 24th at 6:30 p.m.
