Jim Miller, a flag-waving supporter of Donald Trump and Mike Pence who has been showing his support for the Republican ticket for weeks in downtown Warsaw, was in a celebratory mood Wednesday. After touting the Trump campaign for weeks at the corner of Center and Buffalo Streets – just two doors down from the Kosciusko County GOP headquarters – Miller traded his Trump flags Wednesday for an American flag and received a steady stream of supportive honks from motorists. Miller was driven to support Trump early in the primary and has been waving Trump signs not only in Warsaw but also in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis because, he said, of his love of country. He said he was pleased with Trump’s win and the victories by Republicans on the statewide ticket in Indiana. Trump’s victory, he said, extends the lifeblood of the country. “We need to celebrate our country,” Miller said. The 54-year-old father of five grew up in Michigan, but moved to Noble County where he has operated a campground, Harper Lake Campground, in Kimmel. Among his political concerns are the need for religious liberty, the reduction of government regulations and improved relations with Israel. Miller has sometimes even worn a Hebrew campaign button touting Trump. “I’m not Jewish, but they are our only ally in that area,” he said, adding that the country was created Miller said he is hopeful that the Trump administration will relieve some of the government regulations that are hurting businesses, including his own. Miller shut down his campground because of what he calls an “unfunded mandate” that demands he pay for hookups to sewer. “It’s forced my doors closed,” Miller said. “If they don’t stop on the regulations, there will be no small businesses left.” He especially likes the idea of Pence as vice president because he’s “a Godly man” and “a true conservative.” He said Trump’s choice for vice president is a good sign. “You’re only good as the man you surround yourself with,” he said. “If Governor Pence is of that caliber, it’s going to be OK.”
