'Busco Beats Whitko WildcatsSOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko Wildcats trailed by nine points after the first quarter Saturday night and ended up losing 66-60 to county rival Churubusco.
The visiting Eagles, who lost their first six games of the season but improved to 9-11 Saturday after winning for the fourth time in the last five games, led 21-12 after eight minutes of action.
Whitko closed the gap to 35-28 by halftime and 50-47 heading into the final frame.
The Wildcats, who opened the season with a 46-40 win over its other county rival, Columbia City, fell to 9-14.
Freshman Brett Sickafoose led Whitko with 24 points and added two rebounds and a steal, while senior River West chipped in with 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
Senior Brian Collins tallied eight points and five assists, junior Micah Cokl scored six points, and junior Cade Bechtold and senior Shad Ebbinghouse finished with four and three points, respectively.
The Wildcats close the regular season Saturday when they host Heritage.
