Warsaw Swimmers Win 11th Straight Sectional Title

Warsaw earned its 11th straight boys swimming sectional title on Saturday.

Sophomore Grant Knight advanced in two events for the Tigers. He finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke and first in the 200-yard individual medley race. Senior Ian Deming moved on in the 100-yard butterfly after his first-place performance in the race. 

Warsaw sends two relay teams to the state meet. The 200-yard freestyle relay of junior Alexander Cook, sophomore Zachary LaLonde, Deming and Knight received first in the event. Seniors Nicholas Zogbi and Evan Borchers, along with Cook and Knight, will swim at the state meet in the 200-yard medley relay. 

Tippecanoe Valley sends two divers to the diving regional on Tuesday in Mishawaka. Senior Travis Shull and sophomore Zach Hodge finished second and third, respectively at the event. Divers needed to finish in the top four at the sectional to advance to the diving regional.

Warsaw tallied 421 points to win the sectional. Columbia City earned second and Culver Academies finished third. The Vikings ended sixth and Manchester capped off its season with a 12th-place mark at the sectional. 

On Friday, the state final competition will begin at the Indiana University Natatorium on IUPUI’s campus. The first event will begin at 6 p.m.



Wawasee Sends Two Swimmers To State

DUNLAP – Wawasee competed in the Concord boys swimming sectional finals on Saturday. In order to advance, a swimmer must either finish first in the event or have a time that meets the state time standard. 

Junior Jared Krugman earned the Warriors’ only first-place finish of the day. He swam a 4:41.20 in the 500-yard freestyle race and will advance to the state meet. 

Senior Brady Robinson earned second in the 200-yard individual medley, nabbing a spot in the state finals based on his time. 

Wawasee ended the event in fourth place as a team with 311 points. Concord won the sectional with 395 points, Northridge finished second and Elkhart Central was third.

The state preliminary round will begin on Friday, with the top 16 of each event advancing to Saturday’s round. The meet will take place at the IU Natatorium on IUPUI’s campus.
