Blame

Editor, Times-Union:

Well Janet Collins, I stand by my original statements. Last I checked in the Constitution - the President is only charged with signing the bills sent to him by the Congress. You want to hold President Bush solely responsible for the loss of your job, did he call your place of employment and demand you be let go? You have plenty of blame, so you can also blame the Congress for enacting laws interfering in the market, blame the American People for not having the money to buy the RV's that you help produced, yourself for not taking a pay cut to potentially save your job, and your employer who ultimately had to let you go? Can you blame any of those people Janet Collins?

Since you like to talk down to people - because the tone of your letter makes me think that you believe that I am 5, I will try to talk up to you. President Bush never worked for Exxon Mobil ("Exxon Mobile" quoting you directly, does not exist). President Bush never profited from Exxon Mobil. Same for Dick Cheney - he did not work for Exxon Mobil, and he did not profit from the company. If you have evidence to the contrary, bring it to the table with a source and do not take a page from Anthony Burchette's playbook. Now I also have to wonder why you complain about a company making a profit such as the profit by Exxon Mobil. That is the purpose of business - to make profits that are reinvested into the company in terms of new technology - or given to investors as dividends - and some of that money is given to the government in the form of taxation. Did you read Steve Jungbauer's letter? That is capitalism working there. You are mad that President Bush did not nationalize the oil companies. The reason that he did not do so is that the nationalization of an industry by the government is socialism. Would you be upset if Wal-Mart posted a $45.2 billion profit? The State is not above the people, the people are supposed to be above the state. Remember the Pledge, "I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag...and to the Republic for which it stands."

You also claim that two-thirds of Americans support a healthcare bill with a public option. I did some searching online-something that you and Anthony Burchette do not like to do and I came up with some polling numbers:

n Rasmussen 40-56 percent against

n Washington Post-ABC 49-48 percent against

n Gallup 48-46 percent against

Need I go on? If you find one's saying otherwise - post a poll that shows your case, and tell me where you got it? Of course, you also need to point out to me in the Constitution where it shows that the Government is supposed to enter any business. The first three words of the Constitution are "We the People," not "We the Government." Remember Janet, the People created the Republic - not the other way around.
