I recently read a letter titled "Be Open Minded" that was yet again talking about the "Day of Silence." I have already written my say on that subject, but this letter was a little different.
I was encouraged to hear that there were people peacefully taking action against the Day of Silence, but I couldn't understand why the writer of "Be Open Minded" could not be open minded to the Day of Truth that students are apparently planning. Seems a little hypocritical to me.
But what I am writing about was the verse quoted from the book of Romans at the closing of the letter. At first, I saw the verse and just about jumped out of my seat, seeing someone have the nerve to use a verse from the Bible to condone something that without question is a sin. Being that I have seen people take verses out of context, I went to the book of Romans and took a look at the surrounding chapters.
If you read Romans, you will most likely agree with me that verses 1:1-3:20 are about condemnation. In reviewing the first chapter, I read that Paul classifies the acts of homosexuality with that of wickedness, greed, evil, full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice - you should finish it for yourself and not just take me at what I say. Then take a look at verse 2 of chapter 2 where Paul writes "And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things." I am not condoning placing judgment on others, but I am saying homosexuality is clearly wrong and I warn anyone who uses the Bible to say otherwise. So please know what you are quoting. If you haven't read the whole thing, don't quote it.
