ASHLAND, Ohio – Beverly J. Summy, 74, of Ashland, Ohio, died Sept. 1, 2011, in MedCentral Health System. She was born June 27, 1937, in Warsaw, to Raymond and Bonnie Becknell Summy. She was a 1956 graduate of Warsaw High School, where she was valedictorian of her class and was awarded with a four-year scholarship from Dalton Foundries to attend Ashland College. In 1960, she graduated from Ashland College with her bachelor’s degree. She was a secretary for the Benevolent Board and Youth Board for the Brethren Churches office for 20 years. She was an active member of the Park Street Brethren Church, serving on several committees and had been treasure of the Faith Circle for 19 years. She enjoyed hand-craft work including sewing, crochet and needlework. She was also known for baking cakes for all occasions. Surviving are her mother, Bonnie Summy, Ashland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet (and spouse Ken) Rufener and LuAnn (and spouse Fred) Patznick, all of Ashland; nephews, Christopher (and spouse Leigh Anne) Rufener, State College, Pa., and John (and spouse Jenni) Summy, Ashland; a niece, Lauralee Koppler, Ashland; a great-niece, Caley Koppler; and her three great-nephews, Marc, Luke and Jonathan Rufener, all of which she loved to spend time with. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Summy, who died in 2008. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Park Street Brethren Church with Pastors Christopher Rufener, Arden Gilmore and William Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Vermillion Cemetery, Hayesville.
