SYRACUSE - Bernard M. "Rebel" Atkins, of Cromwell, died at 12:40 p.m. Feb. 22, 2011, in Goshen General Hospital.
He was born May 11, 1946, in Boone Co., W.Va., to Lonnie and Eudania Atkins. On May 11, 1968, in Syracuse, he married Martha E. "Marty" Hall, who survives.
He attended public schools in West Virginia and was a U.S. Navy veteran before moving to the Syracuse area in 1966 from West Virginia. He worked at Borden Waste Away, Elkhart, for 25 years, and formerly worked at Syracuse Rubber and Weatherhead Corporation, Syracuse. He formerly attended Zion Chapel, Syracuse.
Also surviving are two sons, Jodi Atkins, Dayton, Ohio, and Mike (and spouse Bethany) Atkins, South Bend; a granddaughter; two sisters, Alpha (and spouse Seth) and Emma Atkins, all of West Virginia; a half sister Dolly (and spouse Romeo) Cooper, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Mike Kohl officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
