Benefit Ride Set To Aid Cancer Victims

Creassia Blackburn says she got a message from God to put a benefit together for two of her friends.

Rick Hall, Warsaw, and Kristy Brewer, Lima, Ohio, have cancer.

Blackburn put together a benefit to help with the two people’s expenses. It will be a motorcycle ride that will start at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the ride will start at noon.

The cost is $15 for a single rider, $25 for a double rider and $25 for a convertible.

The first 20 riders will receive a free T-shirt. The rider’s fee includes a meal ticket where sloppy joes and hot dogs will be served.

Blackburn said she wanted to do a ride because it was something a little different from most benefits that happen in the area.

“I ride bikes with my nephews. I felt like changing things up a bit, and maybe the community would get involved,” Blackburn said.

After the ride, which will go from the fairgrounds, down through Silver Lake and back to the fairgrounds, a concert will take place at the fairgrounds.

Christian groups The Hall Family and Chapter 2 will perform.

Christian music has always been a big part of Blackburn’s life, she said. That’s how she meet Brewer and Hall.

“These are two people who the love the Lord and love singing,” she said.

She described Hall as someone who was always kidding around. She said Brewer once wrote her a poem that helped her through a difficult time in her life.

All the money raised will go to Hall and Brewer thanks to companies that are sponsoring the event.

She said this is the first time she’s ever done something like this.

She said it was a little rough lining up sponsors, but  “people are so good to donate funds and money, in the church community.”

The sponsors are Stafford’s Solid Waste, Tranzstar Inc., Service Electric, McHatton-Sadler and Redpath-Fruth.
