Battery Charge Filed After Child Gets A Black Eye

A Warsaw man is facing charges after police allege he punched a child in the face and told the child to lie about it.
Nathaniel Hollett, 30, of 920 Anchorage Road, lot 36, faces one felony charge of battery with bodily injury on a child less than 14 years of age and a misdemeanor of interference with the reporting of a crime.
Police were called to a local elementary school March 20 in regards to a child missing school due to a black eye.
Upon locating the child,  the child told police that Hollett was getting a bed sheet from a chest and Hollett accidentally elbowed the child in the face.
The next day the child met with Department of Child Services workers in the school nurse’s office.
The child told the DCS worker that Hollett had punched him in the face with a closed fist and Hollett told him if he lied he would get to go somewhere fun, charging documents state.
The child told DCS he feels safe at home “unless Hollett is mad and then I hide behind the red door on the storage unit.”
A warrant was issued for Hollet on March 31 and he was arrested on Sunday. He has since bonded out of jail.
