COLUMBIA CITY – Barbara J. Shirey, 84, rural South Whitley, died Aug. 7, 2015, in her home. She was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Beaver County, Pa., to Robert A. and Buelah Sproat Diebold. As a young girl, her family moved to Roanoke and later Fort Wayne before moving to Coesse. She graduated from Coesse High School. Following her high school graduation, she resided in Kosciusko County where she was employed at Credit Bureau of Kosciusko County, Mutual Federal Savings & Loan, 1st National Bank and Lake City Bank. She was a member of Columbia City Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Surviving are three children, Diana L. (and spouse Rick) Kuckuck and Richard A. (and spouse Trudy R.) Shirey, all of South Whitley; and John L. Shirey, Mentone; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jocelyn Sturgill.
