ATWOOD — The Atwood Community Building Board announced the ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening of Atwood Community Park.
The entire community is invited to join them in celebrating this addition to Atwood, according to a provided news release.
Until this project began, Atwood did not have a community park. The area in question consisted only of a gravel walking path. Through the vision and efforts of the Atwood Community Building Board, along with support from community members, local businesses, local churches, Harrison Township and grant organizations, Atwood now has a park designed for people of all ages and abilities, the release states.
The new park features a pavilion with picnic tables and electrical outlets, a multi-purpose court lined with both basketball and two pickleball courts, and a playground serving children as young as 6 months old. The walking path has been paved with asphalt and extended to approximately one-half mile. The parking lot has also been resurfaced.
A concrete sidewalk connects the park entrance to all the amenities and surrounds the playground, allowing parents and caregivers to comfortably walk around the playground while watching their children. The park is ADA compliant and accessible to individuals of all abilities.
Atwood Community Park was created with generational health in mind. From young children and families to adults and seniors, the park provides opportunities for recreation, exercise, connection and time outdoors for everyone.
This project would not have been possible without the support of community members, local businesses, local churches, Harrison Township, the K21 Health Foundation, Community Amenities Program and Kosciusko County Community Foundation, according to the release. The Atwood Community Building Board is grateful to everyone who helped make this vision a reality.
As a thank-you for the community’s support, the Atwood Community Building Board and Pleasant View Bible Church will provide free food, hot spiced caramel apple cider and water during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening, while supplies last. The celebration will also feature fun for all ages, including wagon rides, games, a bounce house and gaga ball.
The celebration will be Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. at Atwood Community Park, located behind the Atwood Community Building at 213 E. Hovey St., Warsaw. The event will take place rain or shine. Everyone is welcome to attend, tour the new park, enjoy the amenities, and celebrate this milestone for the Atwood community.
