NORTH WEBSTER – Arthur Joseph “Art” Vickery, 94, Warsaw, passed away at 2:25 p.m. March 23, 2014, at Mason Healthcare & Rehab, Warsaw. He was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Springfield, Ohio, to William Joseph and Laura Belle Spencer Vickery. On Aug. 3, 1946, in Anderson, he married Rosemary Gooding, who preceded him in death July 5, 2013. He attended public schools in Ohio and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a lifetime truck driver for Consolidated Freightways, and lived in Anderson, Akron, Ohio, Barbee Lake, Port Charlotte, Fla., and Muncie before moving to Warsaw in 2013. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster. Surviving are two daughters, Nadine (and spouse William) Mowery, North Webster, and Phyllis Mann, Niles, Mich.; three sons: Robert (and spouse Ellen) Vickery, Warsaw; Joseph (and spouse Nancy) Vickery, Fort Wayne; Daniel (and spouse Mary) Vickery, Muncie; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Sue Hedge and Maxine Cripe, both of Scottsburg. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Arthur William “Butch” and James David Vickery; two brothers, George and Robert Vickery; four sisters: Betty Knapp, Helen Higi, Marie Cann and an infant sister. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, with Russ Chandler, chaplain of the North Webster American Legion, officiating. Military services will follow at the funeral home by the North Webster American Legion. Private family burial will take place at the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
