Editor, Times-Union: There is nothing new here, just things that need repeated. Life leads us to many moments where we have to make a decision for what we regard as the "lesser of two evils.” On Nov. 8 we come to another fork in the road where our path forward is a choice between something that is not quite what we might prefer and something else that we cannot possibly afford, and we need the wisdom to know the difference. We cannot afford the appointment of Supreme Court judges that not only defend partial birth abortion but double down on its funding with taxpayer dollars. We cannot afford a new president that commits deeds that are so self-incriminating as to induce further crimes to cover up the original deeds. We cannot afford the perpetuation of irresponsible spending that adds another ten trillion to our debt over another term, and we cannot afford a health care system that was sold with a package of lies and handed off to the master of lies to carry to further extremes that promise to deliver less for more. While Franklin Graham toured the nation’s state capitals he reminded us that if we are citizens, our vote is much more than our individual right. It is also our responsibility, our obligation, and our duty, and all the more so if we are citizens who are also Christians. He then urged us to "Vote for that individual (however flawed) with the most likely path to defeating the godless, progressive agenda of the past eight years." We must remember also that sometimes God judges nations by who he sets in place to rule. (Daniel 2:21) If we are complacent or misguided in understanding what a Godless agenda looks like or if we do not vote at all, God may give us exactly what we deserve and the prophetic words that Samuel delivered to Israel nearly 3000 years ago may ring true for this nation as well. "When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king that you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.” 1 Samuel 8:18 We talk about these things, but what might happen If we all humbled ourselves and prayed? (2 Chronicles 7:14) "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their dark ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Ron Ogden Goshen, via e-mail
