America’s Freedom

Editor, Times-Union:
I often think “what would it be,”
if it were not for the men and women, who fought for me.
The things I take for granted and enjoy you see,
are only in America, the home of the brave and the land of the free.
The stories I’ve heard of World Wars One and Two,
about the brave men and women, and what they went through.
I was very young when they were across the sea,
they were fighting for America, to keep our land free.
They were serving our country, here and afar,
during the Korean, Vietnam, and also the Gulf War.
They were serving on land, in the air and at sea,
now they are fighting terrorism, to keep our land free.
Many gave their lives for you and me,
they sacrificed their all, so we could be free
I think of the veterans and how proud they must be
for protecting our nation, the land of the free.
Now when I think, “what would it be,”
I can thank my grandsons and all the others for protecting me.
Because of all our heroes America will always be,
the home of the brave and the land of the free.
