All Downhill

I sometimes look at myself as an unusual person. I have been accused of always being so serious. When I have business to do, I take care of it and I am off. I am not one that cares to stand and talk a lot.

Since I became old (93), I dream a lot at night. I often think I am going to work the next day. Well, I guess it is OK to dream dreams, as long as one does not become a dreamer.

Something that bugs me is how different people are today than years ago. Too bad, and not for good either. I use to be a retail milkman, delivering milk to houses. My company had several men ready to take our route if sick, or for any reason we would like a day off. The work entails come to my house, get my truck, pick up milk, deliver it and collect at some places, etc. At night - return truck, money and so on. I never doubted or thought the driver may keep some money.

One time I came to Detroit from up north. A young man was flagging for a ride. I picked him up. I let him drive my car while I took a nap and then I drove again. No problem.

In my early days, I did not own a billfold. I put a $5 bill in my pocket when going for a walk. One time I decided to go eat at a restaurant. I put a $20 bill on top of the $5. I paid the girl at the restaurant. When I got home and counted my money, I thought I had too much money. I went to the restaurant and gave the girl $5. Later I decided the $5 really was mine.

My dad was caretaker at a county courthouse. He got two weeks vacation in summer with pay. One of his jobs was carrying the money to the bank two times a day. I took his place for those two weeks. I carried money walking down a street for several blocks and no problem.

Those days, girls and boys would hitchhike when wishing to be somewhere. One time my brother and I took a ride in our car. We picked up two girls. We drove them to their home. We did it just for fun. No problem. Today, if a car is broke down and a man is walking, we would most likely pass him by. It's a shame the world has changed in the direction it has.

I remember when living on a farm when my dad was to plant a new field of raspberries, he was very concerned to have government-inspected plants.

Children are our future. To have a good generation, parents must be very concerned that they plant good Bible food in their children so they will have good fruit (results). Christ is the solution.
