I'd like to voice my opinion (for what it's worth) by making a few points about the alcohol situation in Winona Lake.
n There are many laws on the books that say we have many rights.
n We have the freedom to buy and drink alcohol ... (if we're old enough).
n If we get a license, we can even sell alcohol and tobacco (if zoned by a zoning board).
n We also have the freedom to murder (but we call it abortion) (if we have licenses to kill).
n We can do almost anything we want and are protected by the laws of the land (if we can find a loophole).
n We don't like it when our perceived rights are taken away. (We will fight tooth and nail.)
n I have a right to voice my opinion, so here goes:
I don't like it when places like Winona Lake has its image smeared and tarnished by those who want to make a few extra dollars, even though they have the right to do it. (I can imagine what Billy Sunday would say about the beautification of the exterior and the controversy of the devil's brew being handed out on the street corners and sold in those beautiful places.)
I do have a choice though. I can choose to "not" drop any of my money in those places. Not an easy decision in this community because of all the restaurants that serve alcohol. How did that happen? (Do you suppose McDonalds will have beer someday?)
We may never see this community "like it used to be," but we can choose to act Christian like people used to do. If we don't agree with someone, we can let them know we don't like what they do, but we love them because Christ in us loves them. We need to pray for those who do wrong because everyone is going to stand before God someday and give an account for their words, actions and deeds. My Bible says we should not become a stumbling block for any weaker brother or sister. (I wonder if that means even if I have a right to be a stumbling block by selling them alcohol?) Now don't get me wrong ... I've stumbled a lot in my day, but I've learned to pick up my feet and to avoid those areas and things that caused me to fall.
Is alcohol wrong? (I hear you can rub it on and it helps the muscles.) How about wine? (Grape Juice is good for the tummy, but the Bible cautions us about the fermented kind.)
