Albertis J. Mickem, 78, Leesburg, passed away at 2:05 a.m. Dec. 20, 2013, in his home.
He was born Feb. 15, 1935, in Middlebury, to Melvin V. and Evelyn Nettrouer Mickem. On Oct. 3, 1958, in Milford, he married Lulu M. Fowler, who preceded him in death Dec. 29, 1988.
He attended Middlebury Public Schools and moved to the local area in 1951 from Elkhart. He was formerly employed at Leesburg Foundry for 16 years. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge, Columbia City, and enjoyed playing bingo at the Knights of Columbus, Syracuse.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Mickem and Tammy (and spouse Drew) Cochran, all of Warsaw; three sons, Harold Mickem, Pierceton; Bert Mickem, Syracuse; and Kevin (and spouse Rejeana) Michem, Leesburg; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four half brothers: Don Weaver, Elkhart; Stan (and spouse Joyce) Weaver, Goshen; Keith (and spouse Donna) Weaver, Milford; and Doug Mickem, Syracuse. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother, Larry Mickem.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, with Pastor Harlan Steffen, Wawasee Lakeside Chapel, and Pastor Mike Kelley, Word of Truth Ministries, Milford, officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
