Abortion

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I read with great interest the letter from a pro-choice supporter in Thursday's (Jan. 29) Times-Union paper concerning his opinion/view on abortion. I have to agree with his statement that banning abortion in the United States would never automatically end abortion in the world. Just as making it against the law to commit murder has not automatically ended the act of murder. People are still robbing banks, stealing cars and dealing drugs.

Unfortunately, the writer was correct in stating that whether it's legal or not, abortion is going to happen. Yes, it will happen even if it's illegal, but the difference being is that only one person will have to give an account for that decision to abort in addition to the "butcher for hire," not an entire nation. God will hold a nation accountable that turns its back on his commandments.

A few years back I had an opportunity to speak to a young lady by telephone who had decided to abort her third child. The father of the child (also the father of one of her other children) had called me from the door of the abortion clinic crying and begging me to intervene. I talked with the young lady, prayed with her, begged her to have the child and give it up for adoption. Unfortunately, her mind was made up. She wanted to be free from this pregnancy and the father of the child so she had the abortion. I wish I could tell you that her life has been changed for the good as a result of her "freedom," but I can not. Her economic situation has worsened as have her moral values. She had a legal right to do what she did according to the laws of the land, but not according to God's Holy Law.

I wonder how many pro-choice people have ever seen a baby born? If you've seen a birth, imagine a child leaving the birth canal and after the head emerges an instrument is inserted into its head through its neck and sucks its brains out. Would you call that infanticide? Would you call that murder since the child has never breathed air, yet has a heartbeat, has sucked its thumb, kicked its legs and hiccuped inside the safety of the womb? Would you call that legal abortion of a baby since its partially inside?

Regardless of the stage of the pregnancy, abortion is murder of a helpless child. You indicated in your letter that abortion was alright if it was performed early enough in the pregnancy - really? Let he who believes in abortion, ask to go into the clinic and make the first incision.

It's unfortunate that our tax dollars are being spent to fund abortion as if its some accepted form of birth control. I, for one and hopefully many others, will join in to support the man or woman who takes a stand against abortion as he or she represents us in Congress, in the Senate and the White House. We need to write letters, send e-mails and let the people we elect know how we feel. It's too bad we can't convince the young people of our country that abstinence works as does Holy living before a Holy God. But as the writer on the 29th of January indicated, some are going to continue down the path they've selected.

If you believe right is still right and wrong is still wrong, get involved and make your voices heard. Dave Koontz and the Kosciusko County Right To Life needs our prayers and support as do our lawmakers. The silent majority needs to speak out.
