The day of a parent’s death should be a sad one for children. You have to deal with the loss of a parent, the stress of funeral arrangements and then day-to-day life in which you are living with that loss and coping. In some cases, however, those feelings of loss, stress and the feelings are never experienced. In some situations, children are written out of a parent’s will because they do not obey a family’s demands.
When your parents give you guidance as a child, you follow that. This is known as instilling values and morals. However, when a child’s extended family, such as an aunt, uncle or grandparents give you demands on how to live your life and what to do and not to do, what to believe in and decisions in your life, you do not follow these. You are allowed to live your life according to your beliefs that have been instilled in you. But when you don’t follow these demands set forth by the extended family, your parent is given demands to write you out of a will and leave you nothing because you don’t obey.
The last time I checked, this is America and we have freedoms that other countries are not afforded, and our soldiers are fighting for these freedoms every day and some even give the ultimate sacrifice, and as far as I know, people in America are allowed to live free and do as they please, as long as it is within the borders of the law. As I’ve learned, you follow the law of the land, not the law set forth by a family. In situations like this, these are called cults.
When you are 18 years old, you are allowed live your life as you see fit, make your own decisions and not live according to your family or parents. And just because you live your life accordingly, does not constitute that a father should write his own children out of a will because his children do not obey. But in some situations, this is the unfortunate truth. But when a decision like this is made, there is reaction to this action. It is fair that he can write his children out if he chooses, but the children can do the same as this is their right. And the worst part of all is when it is found out that all of this has been done at the behest of their own grandparents. All of this brings about hate that can never ever be repaired.
The main point here is think before you act, because actions like these are irreversible. You can apologize until your dying breath, but it does not mean that everything will be fixed. For some, money, cars and a home must all be worth being disowned. It just goes to show that you need to think about the longterm consequences of your current actions.
