Forty-five minutes. Think about it. What can one do in 45 minutes? Maybe do the grocery shopping or watch half of a soccer game. Take a drive to Fort Wayne. It's a class period in high school.
It's also how long it took police to respond to my sister's call on Wednesday. Three Siberian Huskies tore down her fence and attacked their pet rabbits. When Bekki went out to see what was going on, they turned on her, forcing her into the house.
So while my sister and her two children waited for the police to arrive, they listened to their pets screaming as the dogs tried to pull them through the cage. As I write this, one of them is being monitored at the vet's and has a broken leg. The other had her toenails ripped out.
When authorities arrived, the excuse for the delay was that the officer had a doctor's appointment. So instead of sending a town officer over, they waited until the animal control officer was available. What is wrong with this picture?
Forty-five minutes. What if one of the kids had been outside?
