Lady Spartans Win Home Opener
After jumping out to a 12-0 lead early, it was smooth sailing the rest of the way for the Warsaw Lady Tigers basketball team, as they mauled Manchester for a 61-13 victory Wednesday night. Warsaw remains perfect in the young season with a 2-0 record, while Manchester is still searching for its first win at 0-4.
The Manchester University men’s basketball team opened the 2021-22 season in front of a standing-room-only and raucous crowd inside of Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Tuesday.
Grace’s men’s soccer team fell in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday in the Crossroads League Tournament semifinals. The Lancers tied Indiana Wesleyan 0-0 after two overtimes, and the Wildcats escaped in a penalty kick shootout (4-3).

The Warsaw Tigers girls’ basketball team’s 53-44 win over the Norwell Knights was a tale of two clinics Saturday night in the Tiger Den. The two teams conducted a three-point shooting clinic in the second quarter, landing a combined nine three-point buckets in the period: Norwell five, and Warsaw four. Kacilyn Krebs nailed three treys on her way to scoring a game- and career-high 17 points for the Tigers.
The Manchester University wrestling team returned to the mats on Saturday November 6. The Black & Gold had a solid season debut at the Adrian Invitational, earning an eight-place team finish after posting a team score of 50 points. 15 total teams competed at Adrian on Saturday.
Grace’s women’s soccer team suffered an upset in the Crossroads League Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Lancers (11-6-1) fell 2-1 to Mt. Vernon Nazarene in the quarterfinals at 1st Source Bank Field. Grace lost the game despite outshooting MVNU 13-8 in the match.
In a game that featured both teams struggling to find the bottom of the net early, it was the Triton Lady Trojans who defeated the Manchester Lady Squires 45-33 Saturday night. Triton moves to 2-0 in the early season, while Manchester is still searching for its first win at 0-2.
Braden Steely, a sophomore kick returner for the Carroll Chargers, returned Mason Smythe’s opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown with the help of a perfectly executed wall up the left sideline. The hosts never looked back, shutting out the Warsaw Tigers 36-0 to hoist one of 48 sectional championship trophies awarded this weekend among Indiana’s six football classes.
Grace’s men’s basketball team locked up its fourth straight win to start the season on Thursday. The Lancers defeated Oakland City 74-64 in Grace’s first road game of the year.
Visiting Triton had a few nice plays, and did well in terms of time of possession. But host Adams Central scored its first three touchdowns quickly, from 52, 54 and 78 yards out and rolled to a 49-3 Class 1A Sectional 44 football championship victory Friday night.

Grace’s women’s basketball team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a win on Wednesday. The Lady Lancers recovered from a first-half deficit, muscling past IU Kokomo 69-58 on the road. Grace’s defense impressed, holding the Cougars to 37 percent shooting while also outrebounding IUK by 14.
A mix of varsity experience and newcomers will face plenty of early challenges as Warsaw opens the 2021-22 girls basketball season. Sixth-year head coach Lenny Krebs welcomes back five letterwinners (seniors Kacilyn Krebs, Abby Sanner and Bailie Stephens, junior Zoe Bergan and sophomore Ava Wetzel) and has seven varsity newcomers, including four freshmen, as the Lady Tigers open the slate at home Saturday, Nov. 6 against traditionally-strong Norwell (6 p.m. junior varsity start).
On what was opening night for both the Wawasee and Manchester girls basketball teams, it was the Warriors who came out on top, winning 58-39. Wawasee starts the season off with a 1-0 record, while the Lady Squires drop to 0-1.
By the time No. 11-ranked Warsaw (7-2) lines up against No. 6 Carroll (9-1) in the IHSAA Class 6 Sectional 3 football final it will have been 21 days between contests for the Tigers.

Tippecanoe Valley opens the 2021-22 girls basketball season Thursday, Nov. 4 against visiting IHSAA Class 2A Bremen on Rita Price Simpson Court.
Over the course of the last 12 seasons, the Triton Lady Trojans basketball program won 139 games. The team won two sectional championships, including one last year. All of this took place under head coach Adam Heckaman. When Heckaman resigned in early October, some thought that it might signal a rebuilding period for Lady Trojan basketball. New head coach Kennedy Krull would have to disagree.
Just like some of her players, new head coach Allie Kauffman is moving up the Manchester girls basketball ladder this season. What remains to be seen is whether the Squires can move up in wins despite major graduation losses from a 12-13 team as well as an injury to their top returning scorer in Makenzy Meyer.
