Grace’s women’s basketball team picked up a convincing 84-56 win over the Bethel Pilots on Wednesday night.
Though the Warsaw Tigers and Penn Kingsmen have met on numerous occasions in recent years, Tuesday night’s edition of the rivalry added a little extra juice to the matchup by being the first game played by Warsaw at Lakeview Middle School’s Old Tiger Den in nearly 33 years. When the game’s final buzzer sounded, it was former Warsaw coach Al Rhodes’ Kingsmen coming away with a 50-40 victory.

Grace’s men’s basketball team came up short in a high-profile Crossroads League contest on Saturday.
Warsaw and Northridge, two teams that routinely finish near or at the top of the Northern Lakes Conference, met Friday night at the Tiger Den with the common goal of snapping short losing streaks. After 32 minutes of play, it would be the Tigers sending their home crowd happy after a big third quarter created enough of a cushion for the team to hold onto a 47-41 victory.
It wasn’t always pretty at times and for a moment it looked as if a major upset was going to be pulled off, but a strong second half from the Triton girls basketball team proved the difference in a 47-31 victory for the Trojans over Oregon-Davis at home Wednesday night.
With the championship trophy of the Lady Tiger Tournament in attendance, the Warsaw Tigers faced the difficult task of taking down the undefeated South Bend Washington Panthers in order to retain it. The visitors proved to be too much for Warsaw, defeating the Tigers 70-49 to win the six-team tourney. Warsaw is now 12-4.

Grace’s women’s basketball team had little trouble with Great Lakes Christian on Friday, winning 85-39.
After each picking up wins earlier in the afternoon on the opening day of the largest Lady Tiger Tournament to date, Warsaw and Chesterton faced off for each team’s second game of the day at the Tiger Den. With both teams playing for a spot in the tournament championship game, it was Warsaw that emerged victorious with a 60-47 victory to improve to 12-3.
After defeating South Bend Washington by nearly 40 points in last year’s Tiger Holiday Classic, the Warsaw boys basketball team found themselves in a much closer, much more defensive minded game Wednesday night against the Panthers in the final game of the 2022 version of the tournament. When the final buzzer sounded, it was South Bend Washington avenging last season’s drubbing with a 51-44 win. Warsaw is now 5-4.
It was a mixed bag for the Warsaw Tigers boys basketball team in their return to the Tiger Den after a lengthy absence. After beating Portage in the opening game of the Tiger Holiday Classic early Tuesday afternoon, Warsaw was unable to go undefeated on the day, falling 59-45 to Harrison in the first meeting in the two school’s histories.
The Warsaw Elementary Basketball Tournament came to an end at the?Tiger Den Wednesday night.
If the Triton Trojans and Jimtown Jimmies wanted to play eight quarters and four overtimes Wednesday night at the Trojan Trench, not many in attendance would have minded. Using a big first half from Cole Shively (19 points) and a massive second half from Anthony Schuh (21 points, 15 rebounds) Triton was able to overcome an early deficit and hold onto a late lead to come away with a 61-59 victory.
Grace’s women’s basketball team registered its 10th win of the season, topping IU Kokomo 71-43 on Tuesday.
Boys and Girls Basketball, Warsaw Elementary Basketball Tournament
Warsaw deftly distributed the basketball early and kept on doing it on the way to besting Wawasee 63-40 in the Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball opener for both teams Friday, Dec. 16 at the Hardwood Teepee.
After dropping its season opener to Mishawaka at the end of November, the Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team has responded by winning its last five games. The most recent of which came on Friday night when the Vikings handed Whitko a 56-42 loss at Rita Price Simpson Court in both teams’ Three Rivers Conference opener.
One could take a look at both team’s records and the final score and assume Tippecanoe Valley didn’t struggle much in beating Winamac 56-38 at Rita Price Simpson Court Thursday night. But the game was a hard fought battle that didn’t get lopsided until the final minutes. In the end, it was the defense and timely scoring of Tippy Valley that extended the team’s winning streak to eight games.
Grace’s men’s basketball team completed its trip to Arizona with its second win in as many days.
In a marquee NAIA matchup, Grace’s men’s basketball team handled No. 3 Arizona Christian 80-62 on Tuesday.

It was a battle of two teams on long winning streaks Tuesday at the Tiger Den as Warsaw hosted Columbia City. The Tigers came into the game winners of five straight and nine of their last ten, while the Eagles entered the contest on a nine game streak after dropping their season opener. After the final buzzer sounded, it was the visitors that extended the streak to 10 with a 68-59 win over the Tigers.
Senior Peyton Felger and junior Carson Smith exceeded their previous season-high point totals to aid Wawasee in victory.
