Occasionally, I get asked by one of you about my thoughts on playing time for a certain player on a certain team.

The Warsaw Tigers Football program would like to share information regarding its summer football camps.

Special Olympics athletes from Kosciusko County competed in the Indiana State Games in Terre Haute from June 9-11.  There were 10 bowlers, 12 bocce players and 14 track and field participants involved in the various events along with 3 new athletes, competing for the first time.

After taking home a sectional trophy last week at Rozella Ford Golf Course in Warsaw, the Tiger Golf team traveled across town to Stonehenge to play host once again for an IHSAA Regional tournament Thursday morning. Warsaw was unable to make it two victories in a row, finishing in fifth place with a team score of 322, missing the top-three team cutoff to end the season.

Warsaw will be well represented at the two premier national track and field events between June 15-18.

The Warsaw Hotspurs defeated Southern Indiana United 4-0 in the final of the Indiana President's Cup in Indianapolis to advance as Indiana's representative in the Mid-West regionals in Ohio later this month.

Joey Rastrelli, the Warsaw Tigers’ junior distance ace, established a new school record in her run runner-up finish of 4:49.49 in the 1600-meter at the IHSAA girls’ state track and field championship meet.

Warsaw’s boys golf team enjoyed a tremendous victory at Rozella Ford Golf Course Friday morning, winning the IHSAA golf team sectional championship.

For the third consecutive year, Grace College’s athletic department took home the top honor at the annual NCCAA national convention.

On the evening of May 31, 2023, Warsaw Community Schools proudly celebrated the first graduates of 2023 in a memorable graduation ceremony. This distinctive event honored the outstanding achievements of the boys track and field state qualifiers, Colton Martin; Emiliano Juarez-Torres; Morgan Johnson; Garrett Hall; and Bryce Duncan, who will be competing at the IHSAA state finals in Bloomington on June 2 and unable to attend the scheduled WCHS commencement ceremony.

Fresh off of the team’s first sectional title in over 30 years, the Tippecanoe Valley Lady Viking softball team looked to keep their season alive against regional host New Prairie Tuesday night. From the jump, the offense of the home side was too much, as the Cougars defeated Valley 16-0 to advance to the 3A semi-state game. Tippy Valley ends the season with a 17-7 record.

Grace College’s athletic department is saddened to announce the passing of Ivan Schuler this week.

The Northern Lakes Conference announced the all-conference teams as well as honorable mentions for each spring sport. The following area athletes were selected for their outstanding work this spring.

Baseball sectionals, Softball sectionals and Golf

Area athletes shined in the 2023 IHSAA boys’ track and field regionals on the oval in Fisher Field, and although no local team finished higher than third place in the team standings the athletes’ battles, struggles, and grit abounded throughout a beautiful Thursday spring evening in the Lake City.

For the second time this year, Grace’s women’s 4x800-meter relay team became NAIA All-Americans.

Baseball sectionals, Softball sectionals and Golf

The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club is thrilled to announce their upcoming Sprint Triathlon, set to take place on June 24, 2023, at 1590 Park Ave, Winona Lake, IN 46590. The event is expected to attract participants from all over, who will compete in a challenging display of athleticism beginning at 8am.

Facing off for the second time in a couple of weeks, the Warsaw and Northridge baseball teams engaged in a back-and-forth contest for the first few innings of their sectional quarterfinal matchup at Northridge Thursday evening. The Raiders would string together five runs in the top of the fourth to take their first lead of the game, not looking back in their 9-3 victory over the Tigers.

Baseball Sectionals and Tennis Regional

With the playoffs requiring a team’s best effort to stay alive, the Tippecanoe Valley Viking baseball team put together one of its finest performances of the year in a 2-0 sectional win over Knox at Newton Park in Lakeville. The Vikings are peaking at the right time, now having won four in a row after the quarterfinal victory.

The Times-Union area female track and field programs are usually comprised of strong middle- to long-distance runners, a handful of successful sprinters, and a few individuals who are strong in field events.

The Warsaw Lady Tigers’ third place team finish in a very close-scoring IHSAA regional track meet still resulted in several of Warsaw’s athletes earning berths in Bloomington for the June 3 IHSAA state track and field meet.
