For the 17th straight season, the Warsaw girls track and field team added a trophy to its total, winning the IHSAA Girls Track and Field sectional at the Tiger Athletic Complex on Tuesday night with 150.5 points, over double second place Concord’s 74.6 . Wawasee finished in fourth place with 65 points, while Lakeland Christian took eleventh with six.

Warsaw baseball’s Monday night home game against Concord was a momentous one for a number of reasons. First, it was Senior Night, and four seniors were honored before the game for their careers at Warsaw. Next, a win over the Minutemen would clinch the Northern Lakes Conference title outright for the Tigers. On a night dedicated to the seniors, it was freshman Grady Nelson’s big night that helped Warsaw win 7-3 for the championship.

For the fourth straight season, Grace’s track and field team had a banner year at the NCCAA National Championships.

A little less than two weeks before the two sides meet again in the opening round of sectionals, the Warsaw and Northridge baseball teams met at Tiger Field Friday evening for their second regular-season matchup. Five runs in the first two innings would be all the Tigers would need as they beat the Raiders 8-2 for their eleventh straight win, earning at least a share of the Northern Lakes Conference title in the process.

Co-head coaches Bo Coolen and Sam Coolen have decided to step down from leading Grace’s softball team.

In a tightly contested game between the Whitko and Wabash softball teams on Wednesday, neither side was able to find much separation. Despite a fantastic outing by starting pitcher Cassidy Skinner (20 strikeouts), Wabash was able to come away with a 4-3 victory in eleven innings.

With sole possession of second place in the Three Rivers Conference up for grabs, as well as a chance to move up into a first-place tie with Peru, the Manchester and Whitko baseball teams met in North Manchester Monday evening, playing a game that was dominated by the Squires from start to finish, as the home side won 14-0.

Looking to keep a six-game winning streak alive, the Warsaw baseball team had its hands full with Goshen on Friday night. Unable to hold on to a three-run lead in the top of the seventh inning, the Tigers needed a walk off hit courtesy of Cohen Heady to win 6-5, extending the streak to seven and keeping first place in the Northern Lakes Conference.

Facing off against Triton in a nonconference baseball game Thursday, Wawasee was able to get off to a fast start, scoring seven runs in the first two innings, which was more than enough for them to hold onto in a 9-0 victory.

Grace's baseball team battled back and forth on the opening day of the Crossroads League tournament. The postseason run, however, was cut short in the single-elimination play-in game with a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to Mount Vernon on Wednesday afternoon.

Facing off for the second time this season, the Wawasee and Warsaw softball teams met at the Tiger Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon for some Northern Lakes Conference action. The result was eerily similar to the first game, as once again, the Lady Warriors were able to finish the job in five innings, winning 14-2.

Elijah Malone, one of the top players in Grace Men’s Basketball history, took the time on Monday to announce the next step in his basketball career. Malone will graduate from Grace College this Saturday, before using his one remaining year of eligibility to transfer to the University of Colorado in Boulder to join the Buffaloes in the Big 12.

Honoring one of the top athletes in Warsaw history, the Max Truex Invitational brought top track and field teams from all across the northern half of the state to the Tiger Athletic Complex on Friday night. The Tigers won four events on the night, but it was Penn that won six, beating Warsaw 118.5 to 101. Carmel took third place with 91 points, Homestead fourth with 86 and Valparaiso fifth at 75.

Grace’s baseball team completed the season sweep of Bethel on Thursday afternoon, securing a spot in the conference tournament next week.

Shanna Zolman, a superstar during her storied basketball career here at Wawasee High School, will bring that bright star glow back to Wawasee High School for two presentations sponsored by Chautauqua-Wawasee on May 7.

The Warsaw girls tennis team has been fantastic to start the season this spring, dropping just one match in its first five while keeping a perfect record in the Northern Lakes Conference. The dominance continued on Thursday evening as the Lady Tigers hosted Wawasee for another NLC match. The home side continued to take care of business, winning 5-0 without dropping a set.

Grace's baseball team picked up two important victories against rival Bethel on Wednesday afternoon. With a berth in the conference tournament up for grabs, the Lancers remain in the driver's seat by taking the first two games of the series, 5-4 and 4-3.
