WINONA LAKE – Grace College's baseball team seems to save its dramatics for Senior Day.

The Warsaw Tigers fell 14-7 to Plymouth in Northern Lakes Conference baseball action Friday evening. Plymouth pulled away by scoring three runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Warsaw’s varsity baseball team took Culver Academy’s best Schott and came out on top 10-7 Thursday.

Citing a desire to be closer to his family in central Indiana, Whitko girls basketball coach Brandon Bradley announced his resignation Thursday afternoon. “I made this decision solely on my own, and I made this decision based on my family,” Bradley said in a statement. “I have now lived in northern Indiana for more than 10 years, while my immediate family is in central Indiana.  With my parents in that retirement stage of their lives, and other family members dealing with health issues, I feel that this is the best decision for me.”

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester Lady Squires beat Mother Nature and the Wawasee Lady Warriors Thursday night, though both opponents put up a good fight.

NORTH MANCHESTER – Mother Nature was the winner in Thursday evening’s high school softball game between the Triton Lady Trojans and the host Manchester Lady Squires.

SOUTH WHITLEY – Drew Bradford admitted he didn’t put much thought into his performance as it was unfolding Wednesday evening. That’s when bad things happen, said the Whitko High School senior.

I was saving this column for Father’s Day, but the stars have aligned and it’s worth it to come up with something else in a month or so. It’s just that much of a feel-good story.

Warsaw evened its girls tennis record at 1-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference with a 5-0 win over visiting Northridge Wednesday night.

In announcements made by the NCAA Tuesday, the Fort Wayne Mastodons and Manchester University Spartans were selected to host a total of five separate NCAA basketball championships events, starting in 2019, all taking place at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Visit Fort Wayne and the Memorial Coliseum partnered with both local institutions to submit a total of 25 bids during the summer of 2016, for events taking place from 2019 to 2022. The NCAA announced championship event hosts for all sports in all three divisions for all four years. "Fort Wayne has a proud tradition of basketball and hosting visitors, and these events will be excellent opportunities to expand our sports tourism resume," adds Dan O'Connell, President of Visit Fort Wayne.

Monday night, the question of who would be the new girls basketball coach at Warsaw Community High School was answered.

SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s girls tennis team knows there’s just no substitute for experience. That lesson was reinforced in a lopsided 4-1 loss to visiting Concord Tuesday afternoon.

Tippecanoe Valley senior D.J. Heckman signed a letter of intent Tuesday to continue his academic and football career at Trine University in Angola.

A doubleheader between Grace’s softball team and Goshen came down to the final inning each game. Fortunately for the Lady Lancers, Grace won both games in the last inning. The first game was won by Grace 6-3 in 10 innings, and the Lady Lancers secured the sweep with a 9-6 win in the second game.

Grace College and Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe welcomed student-athletes from the high schools of the Three Rivers Conference for a Sportsmanship Summit on Tuesday. Student-athletes from the TRC schools attended the conference, which was designed to educate student-athletes about sportsmanship and character training in athletics.

The Warsaw Community High School Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Lenny Krebs as the sixth head coach of the school’s girls basketball program.

SYRACUSE – Warsaw sent 16 hitters to the plate in the first two innings, scoring seven times and going on to roll over host Wawasee 13-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference baseball opener for both teams Monday.

Getting off to a good start in Monday's game helped the Wawasee High School softball team get off to a good start in the Northern Lakes Conference standings.
