Manchester High School senior Collin Meggison signed a letter of intent to attend Wabash College in Crawfordsville to continue his academic and wrestling career. Collin was a 2017 Wabash County, Three Rivers Conference and sectional champion for the Squires.

Nothing tests an athlete’s meddle quite like being in the spotlight. The girls tennis sectional semifinal between Whitko and Wawasee Thursday came down to the No. 1 singles match, and neither player backed down.

SYRACUSE – As they have all season, and most of their prep careers for the majority of them, the seniors on Wawasee High School’s varsity softball team played a big part in Wednesday’s 5-2 win over Northern Lakes Conference foe Concord.

NORTH MANCHESTER – Brooklyn Howard struck out 11 Maconaquah batters, and Class 2A No. 7 Manchester overcame a rough start to beat Maconaquah 7-4 Wednesday.

The key to winning big meets, said Warsaw track and field coach Matt Thacker, is being able to score points with two participants in an event.

SYRACUSE – Wawasee took advantage of Fairfield’s charitable play Tuesday, and the Warriors nearly returned the favor.

In a 12-2 Northern Lakes Conference softball win over Goshen Monday evening at Shanklin Park, the Wawasee Lady Warriors threw the first punch as well as the knockout punch. Class 3A No. 3 Wawasee – the clear heavyweight in the eight-team NLC – scored two runs in both the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead, and then blew the game open with seven runs in the seventh.

Wawasee won both doubles matches, but Whitko won at all three singles positions to take a 3-2 win over the Lady Warriors in a non-conference girls tennis match Monday. The competition closed out the regular season for both teams. Senior Morgan Keirn won 6-2, 6-4 over Wawasee sophomore Meg Heinisch at No. 1 singles. Delaney Keirn, the twin sister of Morgan, blanked Peyton Rookstool at No. 2 singles on Whitko’s senior night.

Raccoon Run teaching professional Craig Isbell won the U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament Monday in Vero Beach, Fla.

Warsaw center-midfielder Justus Voss announced his intention to continue his education and play soccer at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego next school year. A three-year letterman for coach Frank Courtois' Tigers, Voss did not miss a start over the past two seasons. He was a Northern Lakes Conference honorable mention selection and a recipient of a Coach's Award for the Tiger Golf program in his junior year.

Fifteen Warsaw student-athletes and three more from Wawasee were named to the Northern Lakes All-Conference Track and Field Team this morning. The Lady Tigers are represented by Mia Beckham, Remi Beckham, Maygan Bellamy, Emma Bohnenkamper, Anna Craig, Alexie Day, Dayton Groninger, Kenzie Martz, Allison Miller and Angie Sanchez-Vijil. Wawasee’s Hannah-Marie Lamle and Alexis Manges were also named all-conference.

The sectional draws for the IHSAA girls tennis sectional tournaments were held Monday at the host schools. In the Warsaw Sectional, Columbia City and Whitko will open the tournament on Wednesday, with the winner taking on Wawasee in the semifinals Thursday. Tippecanoe Valley plays the host Lady Tigers on Thursday. Warsaw has won 16 sectional titles in a row and 20 of 22; Wawasee has the other two titles. All matches will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Three members of Grace’s baseball team received mention on the All-Crossroads League Team. Austin Baker, Xavier Harris and Gavin Bussard were given honorable mention status to the All-League Team. Harris was Grace’s most dangerous hitter, leading Grace’s team in batting average (.285), runs (34), home runs (11) and slugging percentage (.556). His 11 home runs this season set a program record for the Lancers and ranked fourth in the league

AKRON – Confirmed by an email from Athletic Director Duane Burkhart, Tippecanoe Valley High School boys basketball coach Bill Patrick submitted a letter of resignation Friday.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Grace College’s track and field program enjoyed one of its most successful NCCAA National Championships in program history this week. The Lancers produced eight All-Americans to highlight a strong meet, which was held at Oklahoma Baptist University.

Harrison’s girls and Jefferson’s boys track teams won the 2017 Warsaw Elementary School Track Meet Friday. Harrison finished with 97 points to Eisenhower’s 89 and Washington’s 83. Jefferson edged Washington’s boys 82-78, with Harrison finishing third.

Three area bowlers won regional championships in Bluffton Saturday, and advanced to the middle school state tournament Saturday in Anderson.
