After opening the season with a loss to Carroll on Saturday, the Warsaw boys soccer team looked to pick up its first win of the season against Fort Wayne South Side at home on Monday. The team started slow but settled in nicely, getting into the win column with a 3-1 victory.

After what has been a whirlwind of a past couple of years for the Manchester football program, the Squires will head into the 2025 campaign with some form of stability finally on their side.

Triton has won at least seven games the past three high school football seasons.

Two topics this morning illustrate some parallels on my mind.

Grace’s volleyball team has burst onto the national scene in recent years.

Famous military leader George Patton once said, "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men live.”

I like to think my head spends little or no time buried in the sand… until it does.

With over 90 elementary and middle school-aged kids sitting in a circle around him and hanging on his every word, the passion and drive of Manchester’s new boys basketball coach Pat Lepper is incredibly apparent. To match the community that he’s joining, it needs to be, and he knows it.

Tippecanoe Valley announced the hiring of Eli Henson as their newest boys basketball coach back at the end of April, welcoming last year’s IBCA District 1 Coach of the Year and leader of the reigning 2A state champion Manchester Squires to the program. Henson said he was incredibly thrilled for the opportunity, also noting that he had long wanted to make it to Valley at some point in his career.

I was watching the Cubs hold off the White Sox Sunday to win another series and, at that point, to stay even with the Brewers in the National League Central.

It’s another week of thoughts among multiple topics. I have nothing pithy, no one- or two-liners, but my thoughts, again, aren’t singular this week.

New information out this summer confirms what I have been telling you for a couple of years: the number of people who are umpiring and refereeing youth sports is shrinking.

My mind has moved all over the place all week, as well as my body, in and out of state in fact. I have my share of ifs, ands, and buts this week in shorter form.

James Leiter, a recent Warsaw Community High School graduate and Warsaw Tiger football and track athlete, spoke with the Times-Union earlier this week about not just one comeback, but two comebacks during his senior season: each leading to IHSAA State Finals hardware.

In a year that saw the Warsaw baseball team stacked to the gills with senior talent, it ended up being a junior that walked away from the campaign with one of the top honors an Indiana high school player can receive.

I am not an “I told you so” kind of a person.

The following is work by Chilean poet Nicanor Parra, who lived… until he died in 2018 at age 103.

I am constantly amazed at your reaction to some of the things that come up in my space every week.

It’s only the beginning of July, and those who know me well are aware of how eager I am to start my fall scholastic sports slates as soon as the calendar flips and the ensuing IHSAA moratorium week passed.

I get quite a few emails from you all about the things we talk about every week in this space.

I can’t get anywhere near the level of excitement I have for the NFL draft when it comes to the NBA draft. Wednesday’s 2025 NBA draft did not change my comparative positions between the two events.

I was watching the final seconds of the final hockey game of the season last week.

Warsaw Lady Tiger softball coach Hilary Kiser returned to her hometown after living in Michigan the previous four years- specifically near Chapman Lake - during the summer of 2024. She immediately became a vital part of Golden Lawn Care, a business her father, Gary Kiser owns.
