Warsaw boys soccer coach Frank Courtois doesn't shy away from tough competition.

Grace’s volleyball team is a program on the rise. Under head coach Katie Van Hofwegen, the Lady Lancers have been consistently strong. In the past two years, Grace has won at least 22 games, finished in the top four of the Crossroads League and qualified for NCCAA Nationals twice in a row.

Tanner Andrews had delivered plenty of baseballs and plenty of hitters in his first 23 years. But he had never put nine pitches past hitters in the same frame.

Warsaw earned a pair of wins in a non-conference girls golf match Thursday at Sonehenge Golf Club. The Tigers’ score of 184 for the 9-hole match was better than Rochester’s 206 and Triton’s 261.

Grace College’s men’s soccer team is days away from starting the 2019 season under first-year head coach Arron Patrick. Patrick is no stranger to the Crossroads League, however, coaching at Goshen and playing at Bethel. The Grimsby, England, native had high remarks for the Lancers entering the fall season.

It began with the IHSAA meetings last year, where athletic director for Manchester Community Schools Eric Screeton learned about the Champions Together Initiative.

I was sitting with a group of people a couple of weeks ago, and the subject of our radio station’s summer bus trip to see the Cubs came up. I was asked about my strategy of eating on our trips.

Sophomore Maria Frazzetta led Warsaw’s girls golf team, shooting an 88, missing a playoff for medalist honors by one shot, and leading the Tigers to the Plymouth Invitational team championship Tuesday at Pretty Lake Golf Club.

There are a lot of things I really look forward to about summer.

You ever have one of those moments that completely change your mind on something? I mean, really makes you do a 180-degree turn on something. It happened to me Monday.

Among the first things I was taught when I broke into Kosciusko County news coverage was “if you need to know anything about Mentone, call Rita Price.”

The Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation unveiled a newly refinished gym floor Thursday afternoon honoring local sports broadcaster legend Rita Price Simpson.

For the third year in a row, all of Grace’s teams hit their academic mark. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named every Lancer team as a Scholar-Team.

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and Butler University will work together on a 10-year research study to assess the value of high school sports and other activity programs from the perspective of students’ mothers.

We don’t talk much about Ohio sports in this column, except to take a fun poke at the Reds and their fans and when the Cubs beat the Indians in the World Series in 2016. But something is going on right now with our neighbors to the east that is worth our attention.

Even though I’m on the record as being in favor of putting the designated hitter in both the American and National League, I do consider myself a card-carrying baseball traditionalist. After writing this column, I may be called on to turn in my card.

We knew at the beginning of the season the National League Central was going to be a hotly-contested race from start to finish. But I don’t think too many experts could have envisioned the way it has played out.

The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame has elected new officers and added new members to their Board of Directors effective July 1.

The role of the designated hitter in high school baseball has been expanded to give coaches an additional option for the 2020 season.

Grace’s women’s soccer program is excited to announce David Andersen as its next assistant coach.
