Four Wawasee wrestlers and two Warsaw Tigers were named to the All-Northern Lakes Conference team Thursday. Warriors Logan Stuckman (106 pounds), Jace Alexander (126) and Garrett Stuckman (152) made the team, along with Warsaw’s Jacob Linky (160). Wawasee’s Dylan Tom (120) and Warsaw’s Brock Hueber (195) were “at-large” selections.
Local standout runner Matt Campbell has joined the staff at Grace College as an assistant coach for the cross country and track and field teams.
Spartan Men Fall
Grace’s men’s basketball team enjoyed a wire-to-wire win on Wednesday in a 98-86 rout of Goshen.
Grace’s women’s basketball team picked up a road win against Goshen on Wednesday. The Lady Lancers held off a fourth quarter rally from the Maple Leafs to clinch the victory by a score of 73-71. Kyannah Stull starred for Grace. She made a career-high seven 3-pointers, adding the go-ahead free throws for a 26-point performance.
Sometimes in life things simply do not happen as planned. The unexpected is always right around the corner. When these situations occur, we must adapt to change and determine the best steps in moving forward. Such was the case in selecting the subject for this week’s “Voice.” We were set on addressing the ugly spotlight on professional baseball with the recent sign-stealing incidents and that high school sports is not and must not be about “winning at any cost.”

He has been quite open about his reasons for leaving high school athletics’ governing body — he’s be doing it for 20 years and he’s ready to do something else.
Grace College’s women’s tennis team garnered national attention when it landed in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The Lady Lancers are receiving votes in the poll for the first time in recent memory. Grace joins No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan and No. 25 Marian in the NAIA poll from the Crossroads League.
As the boys’ season is in full-swing and the girls’ season begins to wind down, several players throughout this basketball-rich state are finishing strong and posting outstanding performances on a regular basis. Triton senior Whytnie Miller was named the girls recipient of the W.B. Hawkins Award during Saturday's concluding evening of the boys and girls high school basketball Bi-County Tournament at LaVille High School. For that and her actions in supporting her teammates under difficult circumstances, Miller has been tabbed the Times-Union Athlete of the Week for Jan. 20-25.
